Teens often say there’s “nothing to do” in town, and Sylacauga Parks & Recreation is ready to change that. After surveying students from Sylacauga, B.B. Comer, Childersburg, Fayetteville, and Winterboro high schools, the top choice for a teen event was clear—and we’re making it happen.
On Monday, September 15, from 5–8 p.m., Central Park (across from Blue Bell Creameries) will come alive for The Kickback—a brand-new event created exclusively for teens ages 14–18.
The evening will feature food trucks—including Taco Tuesdays, On the Run Concessions, and ShyTato—plus music by DJ Weechie to keep the vibe going. Yard games will be available, and plenty of space will be set up for teens to hang out with friends, eat dinner, and simply kick back. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, though tables and chairs will also be provided.
Admission is free, but teens are encouraged to bring money for dinner to support the food trucks who are partnering with Parks & Rec to make this event possible.
“This event was built by teens, for teens,” said Lauren Layton, Special Events Coordinator. “We wanted to make sure their voices were heard, and The Kickback reflects exactly what they told us they wanted—a fun, relaxed space on a night that works for them.”
Security will be on-site to ensure a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all.
