Part-Time Career Coach

The Career Coach provides education support services and individual/small group coaching sessions designed to assist students with developing and implementing tools.  The Coach will be responsible for developing meaningful relationships that promote academic/career technical and personal success in a college environment.  This position will serve as a liaison with students, as well as implement recruitment and advisement of workforce initiatives.  The Coach assists students with career assessment tools, career exploration activities, exposure to industry environments, and participation in Ready-to-Work and other available programs.

This is a temporary, grant-funded, and probationary status position.   Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.

Pay Rate:  $28.00 per hour


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Adheres to the policies, rules and standards of Central Alabama Community College, Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies and federal regulatory bodies.
  2. Assists students with career assessments and career exploration activities.
  3. Develops effective presentations and activities to facilitate career exploration and soft skills training.
  4. Plans and implements student recruitment activities for academic and technical programs.
  5. Uses technology effectively for word processing, record?keeping, instructional applications, electronic communication, information and data management.
  6. Maintains ongoing database and thorough documentation of program specifics of services offered. 
  7. Travels to service area career centers to conduct training sessions as assigned.
  8. Prepares required reports as required by Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, and other regulatory agencies.
  9. Provides coaching based on best practices to address emerging student transition issues and contemporary challenges, including educational planning, academic obstacles and personal barriers to success.
  10. Develops and initiates proactive interventions for program participants to successfully complete their educational goals, including time management and organizational skills, study skills and schedules, and assistance with task analysis.
  11. Maintains accurate and consistent contact data for program participants, including student attendance at sessions, accurately and on time.
  12. Conducts assessments relevant to the success and progress of students and prepare corresponding reports. 
  13. Assists in the recruitment, selection and enrollment of program participants.
  14. Works in collaborate manner with all college departments.
  15. Ensures institutional compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, marketing, business, or related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  2. Three (3) years of working experience in providing counseling/career advisement to students is required
  3. Effective oral and written skills are required
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
  5. Data management experience is required
  6. Ability to travel to and from instructional sites and to participate in scheduled activities is required
  7. Ability to work collectively with college faculty and staff, community agencies, and other programs in the service area is required
  8. Ability to work non-traditional work hours is required
  9. Display a cooperative and approachable attitude and demeanor is required.
  10. Willingness to take initiative and commitment to a philosophy of continuous improvement is required.
